DAISY CROWN
DAISY CROWN
She was a sister; the smaller of two female forms created in 1998. The compo¬sition just didn’t work. Something had to give.... and she remained. I have tried to catch the quiet elation of this child adorning herself with wild flowers. It is an act where the girl temporarily verges on maidenhood. The form of the sculpture is simple. There is just a slight rotation of the torso, a downward tip of the head, an arch¬ed back to facilitate the reaching arms, the eyes closed – the better to ‘see’ the top of one’s head. A deep sense of joy in a simple act.
